For Marksbury branded products, our animals are raised and processed in a system that you can see, from the farm to the final package. We honor the dignity of each and every creature in our care, and as a result, we are more than willing for you to see exactly how we produce and process our animals. We want you to fully know what you’re getting each and every time you purchase a Marksbury product. In fact, this commitment extends even to the packaging we use. You won’t see styrofoam trays hiding part of our product from your view. Every Marksbury product comes in a fully transparent package so that you can see all of what you’re getting.
Our small scale of production enables us to tell you the life history of each pound of meat you purchase from us. It also enables us to guarantee that when you bring an animal to us to process for yourself, you will be guaranteed to get the meat from that animal. While this statement sounds like something that doesn’t need to be stated, we have found that unfortunately, it hasn’t always been the case for farmers in our area to get the meat from the animals they take to their processors.
As soon as an animal arrives at Marksbury, they receive a unique Marksbury ID number that stays with them all the way through the process. This number helps us to maintain the identity of each carcass, including its owner, day of slaughter, and its carcass weight. We keep this number with the meat from the carcass through every step of our process, and it’s even incorporated into our packaging. So when you buy a pound of ground beef from us (or a pound of any species we offer) OR you have an animal processed with us, we are able to tell you for certain the animal that provided that ground beef.
Transparency and traceability are two of the pillars of our business enabled by our small scale of production. Our industrial scale competitors simply can’t offer these two values in their own business because of the impracticality of doing so with the hundreds of thousands of animals they process each week.
